Kanata Quilt Guild

May Program – Beth Van Wyngarden

Join us on Tuesday, May 6, for our regular monthly meeting – moved from Thursday for this month only!

Our May program features Beth van Wyngaarden and her musical husband, Rob. Beth will present a slide and trunk show, ‘Quilting from the Heart’, and talk about her quilting journey. Rob will play background music before our meeting starts, at break, and for a bit after the meeting. This will be a real treat from one of our guild members.

Beth is a Stittsville-based quilt artist designing and creating quilts, writing quilt patterns and teaching quilting classes. She is inspired by nature and the beautiful Canadian landscapes that surround us. Her quilting journey started in 1987 when she made quilts for family and home. Once each family member had a quilt and the house was full of quilts, then the fun began. She could then start expanding into a range of colour pallets and styles. Exploration of colour, design, and techniques is still her focus. Beth had the pleasure of attending and earning a diploma from the Royal School of Needlework in 2014.

Quilting became a full-time endeavor in 2015 when she created Beth’s Quilt Works. Her art quilts have been juried into shows and won numerous awards locally, nationally, and internationally, including the Ottawa Quilt Guild, Calgary Stampede, Quilt Canada, and Houston International Quilt Festival. In 2019, Beth started an exciting relationship with Northcott fabrics, designing a Canadian-themed sampler quilt for their release on an ‘O Canada’ fabric line in Spring 2020. Her quilts and designs have been published in Canadian Quilter and Art Quilt Studio Magazine.
