Virginia Taylor & Nancy Arbogast
This is a fascinating, lively presentation that brings to life the colours and stories behind fabrics worn by women in East Africa. The talk includes a display of multiple kangas ranging from antique pieces worn by women during a wedding to those used during political campaigns. The talk also includes information about kitenges, large pieces of colourful African fabric, a description of their patterns and their use in everyday clothing. And finally, Virginia and Nancy will share with us some of the many ways that African fabrics might be used in quilting and sewing.
There will be a chance to purchase some fabrics from Virginia and Nancy at the meeting, with all proceeds benefiting Project TEMBO.
