October Program

Jane Roszell has always had a love of fabric and learned to sew at an early age from her grandmother. She made most of her clothes throughout her working career. She also dabbled in stained glass and printmaking.  But upon retirement in 2006, she started quilting. As she was a sewer, it was a natural transition for her to move towards quilting. She soon discovered that traditional quilting was not for her. She then turned to art quilts and has not looked back.

Her passion lies in modifying fabrics through the use of paints, thread work, or simply cutting up fabrics and reassembling them.  All this leads to creating different patterns/designs which often serve as backgrounds for appliqués, such as the technique used by Laura Heine. Her favourite subject matter is landscapes.

She tries to create a certain mystical element and evoke an emotional reaction in her art.

She also volunteers her time in making and giving classes on how to make Touch Quilts (quilts for Alzheimer’s patients).
